A Schengen visa lets you travel across many European countries – including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands – with a single visa. It is the most popular choice for Indian travellers planning a Europe holiday.
Where should you apply?
You must apply to the embassy of the country that is your main destination, meaning where you will spend the most nights. If you stay an equal number of days in several countries, apply to the country you will enter first.
Key requirements
- Passport valid for at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with two blank pages
- Completed application form and recent photographs
- Travel insurance with minimum coverage of €30,000 valid across the Schengen area
- Flight reservation and hotel bookings for the entire trip
- Day-wise itinerary
- Bank statements, ITR and employment or business proof
When to apply
You can apply up to 6 months before your trip. Appointment slots fill quickly before summer, so it is best to apply 6–8 weeks in advance. A short-stay Schengen visa allows a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period.
