An international trip is exciting, but a little planning makes it much smoother. Here are practical tips our consultants share with every traveller before departure.

Before you leave

  • Check that your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
  • Keep printed and digital copies of your visa, tickets, hotel bookings and insurance.
  • Inform your bank about international travel and carry a forex card or some local currency.
  • Buy travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip delays and lost baggage.

Smart packing

Check your airline's baggage allowance and pack according to the weather at your destination. Keep medicines, chargers, a change of clothes and important documents in your cabin bag. Liquids in hand baggage must follow airport security limits.

Expert tip: Save your hotel address, embassy contact details and our helpline number on your phone and on paper, in case your phone battery runs out.

At the airport

  1. Reach the airport at least 3 hours before an international flight.
  2. Complete check-in and baggage drop, then immigration and security.
  3. Keep your passport, boarding pass and visa easily accessible.

Staying safe abroad

Respect local laws and customs, avoid carrying large amounts of cash and keep valuables secure. Share your itinerary with family and stay in touch regularly. With the right preparation, you can focus on enjoying your journey.
